So I know this blog never really took off... but I think I'm going to try again! As my first new post, I'm showing you all a couple designs I made in Illustrator. The first three could maybe be part of a collection, with the asymmetrical shoulder designs, and the last one is just something pretty :)

The Somewhat Successful Flea Market

Sooo I didn't sell anything at the flea market. Oh well. I also didn't take any pictures of my booth or my wares... sorry! BUT I did see this guy with a ridiculous/fabulous outfit... at about 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning!

I love his shoes! And he definitely rocks the old man pants, with the rolled up hem and high waist.

I was also rather proud of the outfit I put together for this awesome day... I sort of went back to my hippie days (yes, I used to dress like this all the time). Here it is:

It consists of:

-Some brandless made-in-India skirt

-Hollister halter top (got it for free, I don't actually shop at Hollister)

-Vintage blouse with awesome lattice detail

-Hat from Macy's

-Bracelets and necklaces from flea market, pow wows, and a reservation

So that's about it for today. Let me know what you think of the outfits! I'm going to Atlantic City and New York until the 11th of July, so I won't be updating for a while... but hopefully when I get back I'll have some great outfits to post!

This Sunday

So I know I haven't been a very good blogger, but hopefully when I actually get internet in my room I will be better about it...

Anywhooo. For those of you Chicago-area folks, this Sunday I will have a table set up at the Rosemont flea market. Come see and/or buy my stuff! I crochet hats and accessories, sew bags and some clothes, and make jewelry. I don't remember what my space number is, but I will look it up and post it today. Hopefully I will also have a sign that says Barefoot or Barefoot Gen or something.

If I'm lucky, I will also finally get some pictures of stylish (or just interesting) people at the flea market too... and then I can have a real blog! Get excited, everybody!

Hmm... if I'm not too busy crocheting, maybe I'll do an outfit post later today....

If only I had all the time in the world....

My friend Arthur showed me this cool site with old magazine ads and covers (linked in my sidebar, "Wartime Rags")... One in particular jumped out at me:

I think I'll make this my next project... I've got tons of great fabric I need to use up. Unfortunately, I've got no dress form :( ...could make things difficult. I hate designing without a dress form. Maybe I'll find a pattern that looks similar and just add the interesting criss-cross detail.

Sorry I haven't been updating... I've been sick :( I've had the flu AND an ear infection! It's awful.

So for now I'll just show you a picture of something I made for a party... it's made completely out of paper flyers from my dorm!

(I'm the one on the left, of course... the girl on the right made her outfit out of a towel! So cute!)

SO I just have to tell you all about this weird thing that has happened because of my silly ear infection... the explanation might be slightly gross, so be prepared, or stop reading now.

So basically, my right ear is filled with fluid. This has had several effects on me: 1) it really hurts 2) I can't really hear a lot and 3) everything that I can hear I am actually hearing through liquid, and not completely with my ear drum. Or something like that. The doctor didn't explain it very well. This makes everything sound very, very strange... distant and metallic, and also ever so slightly flat. That is the weirdest part, because my left ear is perfectly fine and I can hear everything normally (at a normal pitch). This means that everything I hear, I hear twice (at the same time of course). It is like two instruments playing the same note, but one is incredibly out of tune. It's awful. And the worst part is listening to music. It's torture. Everything sounds demented and robotic and alien. And I will probably have to live like this for almost another week! Aaggh!

DIY - Sneaker Sandals

My sister Katie had a nice pair of Vans sneakers, but she loved them so much they wore out within a season. She couldn't bear to part with them, so she decided to make them into sandals. We decided to get rid of the tongue, cut out the toe, and cut out the sides, but leave the great white stripe.

I like these sneaker sandals for a number of reasons. First of all, they are self-made and completely unique! But they also follow several high fashion trends in shoes right now: gladiator styling, laces, and ankle cuffs. But it's still clear that they're made out of a sneaker - maybe we'll start a trend!

Hi! Welcome to my brand new style blog. I will soon be trolling the streets of Chicago, hunting for styles that pique my interest. For now, let me introduce myself...

This is me:

Admittedly not the most flattering picture. Anyways...

I am a student in Appleton, WI, but my home and my inspiration is in Chicago. I get most of my clothes for free or from thrift stores, and my two favorite places to be are Argo Tea and Vogue Fabrics. Here are some styles I have been liking lately:

bright solids
too much lace
'90s garden party dresses
lingerie as clothing
cultural melange
menswear on women
neo-hippie
loose tops, tight bottoms
tight tops, loose bottoms
deconstruction
tights (INTERESTING ones)
skirts as dresses
short hair on girls
totally insane thrift store shoes
super short everything

And here are some styles that have lived way past their prime:

leggings as pants (except in very special circumstances)
bootcut and flare jeans
wedge espadrilles
short jean skirts paired with Uggs (this was never ok, and has gone on far too long)
gym shoes (THESE ARE NOT AND NEVER WERE FASHION!)
huge sweatpants and tiny t-shirts
any shoe with pointy toes
drop crotch pants
